My family is moving to a new house soon, which means that Meitaicarrier.Com LLC is moving, too! What better way to celebrate that than to having a moving sale??

From now through the month of July, MTC No Frills, Basic, and Deluxe carriers are ON SALE, with a huge 25% off discount! Sorry, no other carriers will be discounted during this time. :-(

Certain colors and fabrics are starting to run low, so if you have your eye on one in particular, make sure you grab it quickly. And who knows?? I may even toss in a little "extra" for you! ;-)

Welcome to the brand new MTC Deluxe Solarweave Summer Carrier!

If you're like me, baby-wearing during the summer can be especially brutal. Not only is the sun beating down, but body-to-body contact in the heat and humidity can make things uncomfortable for both you and your little one.

The MTC Deluxe Summer Carrier is a mei tai designed as a double-sided frame with two layers of bright white Solarweave. The light and airy center helps keep you and your treasure cool while still enjoying the sun!

This carrier's straps and frames are 100% chino cotton twill in the color of your choice. Deluxe carriers come with a toy loop and carabiner included. Extras you can add include a sleeping hood (regular or Solarweave), a headrest, or XL straps!

You can visit my HyenaCart where you can see this and other great carrier choices! See you soon!

Does anyone here want to do testing for me on a line of summer carriers I'm working on? The testers will be solid-colored with no extras (your choice of color; see below). The body will have a panel like the Deluxe carriers [examples], but made with white Solarweave instead of a print. You would just pay for materials and shipping ($25 total), use the carrier for a week or two, and then answer some questions for me. The carrier would be yours to keep after that.

The testers will be in the following colors [Color Chart]:

Regular: Blueberry, Chocolate, Ice, Sunflower Seed
XL Straps: Blueberry, Chocolate, Licorice

Err on the side of larger if you're unsure of sizing. I'm currently working through my old stash of shorter straps, which are ~69" shoulder and ~27" waist regular, and ~79" shoulder and ~32 waist for XL. No extra cost for the extra length.

Please comment (screened) with strap length, color, and email address if you're interested. I'm looking for 3-5 people. I currently have no outstanding orders, so making them will be first-come, first served, ~one week turnaround. If you really want to do testing but absolutely hate the colors available, email me (nisha@meitaicarrier.com) to work something out.

Thank you!

I hate waste, and try to eliminate it from my life as much as possible. So it's really no surprise that Meitaicarrier.Com LLC is now going to be following suit! Here's a brief rundown of the changes being made at MTC specifically to help the environment:

* The cost of solid No Frills carriers is coming back down! See how!
* Want a way to store your carrier? Try a recycled twill carrying bag!
* What do repurposed fabric scraps and your house keys have in common?

1) An increase in textile costs recently caused an increase in my carrier prices. The brunt of the increase went into the solid No Frills carriers because they use the most amount of twill. Since I wanted to keep the cost of those carriers way down, this has bothered me significantly. Happily, in hunting down sources of less expensive reinforcing fabric, I stumbled upon a seller of recycled cotton twill: bottomweight fabric that was used in the process of non-chemically conditioning other fabrics, and then was wastefully thrown away. I've taken on a huge stock of this material, re-laundered it, and checked it for durability. Since this recycled twill is much less expensive than virgin twill, I will begin using it for the inner reinforcement layer of the No Frills line of carriers. This will allow me to drop their cost BACK DOWN to $30! (Note: Solid carriers with full virgin twill will remain a purchase option at the premium price.)

2) Since the pieces of twill I'll be recycling leave me with remnants that aren't big enough to use in a full carrier, the leftovers will now go into making storage bags for your mei tai! These bags will feature snap closures, a carrying strap, and quick-fold instructions for your mei tai for only $2!

3) While I typically make pretty good usage of the fabric that goes into making carriers, there are still times when I'll end up with small pieces of fabric (both twill and print) that really aren't big enough to use even in quilting. Since I'm constantly looking for ways to reuse things, and with the help of the awesome people at Spoonflower.Com, I've taken my scraps of fabric and used them to create and stuff keychains made with specially-printed MTC fabric! Carry your keys in style for only $1!

I hope that you're all as excited about these changes as I am! And there's still more to come! I know that some of you have been waiting eagerly for the MTC Mini doll carriers and the spiffy new Design Gallery. Trust me; they're still on the way!

Have a great weekend!

You may have heard in the news lately that textile costs have risen significantly over the last 12 months. Up until now, I've been able to avoid it. However, with my most recent order of twill, I will have to put through a slight increase in carrier costs. I really hate having to do so, but I hope you all understand. :(

There was a package waiting outside my door on Friday. A brand new print, hand-picked by my husband, just for babywearing dads! Look under the cut for the gorgeous details!

I am so in love with this!Collapse )

The print is called Nico Spice by Richloom Studio. I was sad when Holly's "Jason Circles" pattern went out of print, so I was thrilled when this one popped up. I hope you're excited as I am to get your special guy into these new carriers!

I just got my MTC today! I LOVE it. My little girl has been in a mei tai once and when she saw what it was she said, "Ooo!! Mommy back." She is just as excited as I am. It is even cuter in person and very well made. Thanks Holly!!!

I did a little photo shoot today for MTC. My friend Mia (sell_elliot - who I actually met as a customer who happened to live near us!) recruited her friend Trista and her new little baby Isabella to do a new infant carry tutorial for me. After the photo shoot (at the mall) we got cookies at Mrs. Fields and then walked over to Starbucks. After Starbucks we picked up Burger King and went to the park. We got home at nap time and Bea was POOPED!

Check out the site soon for the full tutorials :)

I am preparing my first batch of carrier for my return stocking on April 11 and I am having trouble deciding whether or not to offer hoods with the carriers. I am no longer going to be taking custom orders. I am going to start with stocking every other Friday with a few strap/print combos of my choosing and then eventually only stock a large amount of carriers seasonally, with 4-6 combos for each season.

Poll #1162619 MTC HOODS

Which would you perfer

All carriers include a detachable hood
Some strap/print combos are offered with a hood, some are not
No hood offered

Hello ladies, as some of you might already know I am a senior Cultural Anthropology student at Temple University in Philadelphia and I’m currently interested in studying/researching the ancient practice of babywearing. If at all possible and if any of you have time to write me up a little bio of yourselves and babywearing. I’ve written some questions that might spark up your memories but feel free to write as much or as little as you’d like. As I’ve come to find out many parents believe babywearing to be the ultimate way to bring up a baby. Although this practice isn’t as widely accepted as I previously thought there is a definite following. I’ve written a few questions that might help to bring up some memories of your first days of babywearing.

When did you first hear or see babywearers?
How do you think your parenting techniques differ from the techniques of your stroller using parents?
What are some obvious benefits to the baby?
Would you consider yourself to practice attachment parenting?
How much research have you done on your own previously to babywearing?
Why do you think some new parents might feel intimidated by babywearing?
How do family members or random people on the street look at you while babywearing?
Have you tried all different kinds of slings and wraps? Have you found that different wraps/slings work best for differently for babies of different size?
If you have other children, have you always used baby slings? How does currently using a sling help with daily activities?
Does the baby’s father carry the baby in a sling? How does he feel as far as it not being “masculine” enough? Comments from other dads?
What are some of the first memories of babywearing…such as the first time going out shopping, walking around the city, etc?

Please e-mail responses to TUA57726@temple.edu And if anyone is from the Philadelphia area it would be even more helpful. THANK YOU!!
